When you get a new piece of Musical Gear... Be it hardware, software, rack-mount, stomp box, and so on... Put away the instructions aside from the set-up and throw the troubleshoot guide into the trash... Accidents and ignorance creates beautiful mistakes... (Jaco Pastorius : 1951 - 1987)

SWR Mo' Bass Amp Review

"Analogification"

an-a-log-if-i-ca-tion n. 1. The expression of one's true musical self through the most dynamic and complete bass Instrument on the market today. 2. Not an incredible digital simulation.

SWR MO' BASS REVIEW :

If you're the kind of bass player who likes to mold and shape your sound, but you're sick of dragging around scads of effects pedals, cables, and batteries, check out the new Mo' Bass from SWR. This multifaceted amp head combines a rock-solid SWR power amp, a tube preamp, and five classic analog effects-all in one unit.

Mo' Bass's tube overdrive, subharmonic generator, bass synthesizer, outboard EQ, and chorus effects open up almost endless possibilities for tonal tweaking. Couple that with a sleek look and a user-friendly interface, and you've got an impressive product sure to intrigue a wide range of bassists.

As a plain old bass amp, Mo' Bass is beefy and loud. A full-featured tube preamp section, sporting a 3-band EQ, SWR's patented Aural Enhancer circuitry, and a tube Limiter/Leveler, feeds the aforementioned dual power amps. Introduced on earlier SWR models, the Aural Enhancer is designed to enhance the low and high portions of the signal. I gigged with Mo' Bass through a 1 x 15 enclosure loaded with a 600W 4z speaker and with two 8z enclosures, all with trouble-free results and the deep bass response you'd expect from a high-wattage amp.

Another perfect use for Mo' Bass is in the studio. Home tapers will love its flexibility and ease of use, while working commercial studios could find all sorts of applications, from running other instruments through Mo' Bass to using it as a rerecording amp. One drawback for studio applications is that you can't turn off the cooling fan-in small studios where you can't isolate the amp, this could present a noise problem.

An early prototype of the Mo' Bass was shown at last January's Winter NAMM show, but the final production version, on display here at Summer NAMM, has been buffed with an expression pedal input and other electronic improvements. So now you can add this next stuff to your rig.

The "Mo' Control" is the satellite footswitch control for the SWR Mo' Bass amplifier. Mo' Control features individual controls for each effect, plus four banks for combining groups of effects, an all bypass switch, and a "dual mode" switch which splits the signal into clean/dirty to individual sides of the Mo' Bass' stereo power amp.
