When you get a new piece of Musical Gear... Be it hardware, software, rack-mount, stomp box, and so on... Put away the instructions aside from the set-up and throw the troubleshoot guide into the trash... Accidents and ignorance creates beautiful mistakes... (Jaco Pastorius : 1951 - 1987)
So, shortly after the class we drove out to Menteng, after grab some food first, finally we got to the Cafe ... or should a say Bar ??? huhuhuhu ... The place called BB'S 12 Bar ... a place full of people that came just for the music ... It's a rare situation right now, cause a lot of places now just where people like to hang out and sometimes they dont really even care bout the music ...
So, I got first impression that we're about to listened or should I say appreciated to the Black Blues ... an old style blues that purely all about blues ... But what shocked me up is the line up of the players that night ... It's The Big City Blues Band that were playing !!! There were Mates on Bass and Donny Suhendra on Guitars ... besides all the familiar faces on blues community such as that Jack Daniels brothers on the guitar and keyboards ... That Big (I meant the voice ... :p) Blonde singer that we usually saw every Blues Night on TVRI ... Also the guitarist from Odink Nasution Band ... (who really Sutiyoso look alike ... hehehe ... I heard some of my friends said the same thing ... is that really him ? heheheh ...) and also Amiroez on vocals. (Man ... that's what I call reaching up the high notes !!! he really sings from the heart ...) So, what I thought was going to be an all blues tunes turns out to be some groove jam of Blues and Fusion ... Ooops I forget to mention this young drummer who really plays with a lot of grooves in his pocket ... with a lot of syncopation along the way ... Nice !!!!
The first tune was a groove blues instrumental that quickly make my head start to nod along ... Until that time I never thought that Blues bass line could be that groovy ... Is it just the way that Mates played ? but that thought shortly changed after the rest of the gang start to showed their solo ... As usuall the Jack Daniels boy really played hard ... the way he make his guitar scream ... ROCKS !!! Then came Donny to show off ... he mixed his blues scale with fusion melodic licks ... what the ??? this really shocked me up !!! shortly after that the keyboard player start to make his hammond sounded keyboard to scream and cry !!! he plays very atractive and really getting along with the 'sahut-sahutan' of Donny's guitar !!! again ... ROCKS !!! The young drummer seems to try to keep his playing style in Blues feel but still he can't hide his Stewart Copeland influences drumming ... ROCKS !!! and when the time comes for Mates to show his solo ... Man, I swear that I can hear his fat rounded sound from his Active Fender Jazz Bass V from his highest solo notes until his Low C notes ... How did he do that ??? the licks came from blues scale with a jazz feels ... of course this one also ROOCCCKKKSSS !!!
There were also songs from Edgar Winter, Tracy Chapman even Out of Love from Toto that they re-arangged into really heavy stuff ... and also a lot of blues tunes that they played that night. Huhuhu ... what a groovy night !!! Thanks to Johan San for *cekokin blues* also the rest of the guys from JCC ... Lia San, Niken San, Karen San, Martha San ... too bad you didn't came along Christ (Mago Chan ... Hehehehe ...) It was a very nice experience for my ears ...
