When you get a new piece of Musical Gear... Be it hardware, software, rack-mount, stomp box, and so on... Put away the instructions aside from the set-up and throw the troubleshoot guide into the trash... Accidents and ignorance creates beautiful mistakes... (Jaco Pastorius : 1951 - 1987)

A Tribute to Fender Bass

Introduced in 1951, the Fender Precision Bass completely transformed the sound of popular music by the early '60s. This is the first book to show you how and why.

This richly illustrated history reveals the true colors of the Fender electric bass: as a powerful agent of change in popular music and popular culture. It tells the story of technological and artistic evolution, of basses and players—and of their profound influence on the world around them. Celebrating the instrument's 50th anniversary, How the Fender Bass Changed the World salutes the revolutionary impact of the bass in the hands of James Jamerson, Jack Bruce, Paul McCartney, Carol Kaye, John Entwistle, Jaco Pastorius, Sting, and other bass visionaries and virtuosos past and present.

Anyway, as a fitting tribute to the first 50 years of the Fender bass, this book also serves as an important report on the history and current state of the instrument. with clear detail, great style, and vintage photos... good-looking and easy reading.

The Quotes :
"I think the invention of the bass guitar changed the whole direction of music. I would argue that it was more important than the guitar... and sometimes, the bass was as important as the lead vocals, while the guitar was just chinking away rhythmically". (Jack Bruce)

"Yeah, the electric guitar turned heads... but the bass guitar let you know the '50s were over and music was going to new places". (Marcus Miller)

"It was all over by the early '60s. The drummers were starting to play eight to the bar, and I thought at first maybe they were just going for more power. Then I realized that, no, it was because of the bass..." (Keith Richards)

"It really changed the sound of music because it ate up so much space... You couldn't just have it playing 4/4 lines because it had too much personality... everything upstairs had to take a back seat." (Quincy Jones)
