no, doug rowell is not just an ordinary guitar luthier.
as he is already very famous in creating sculptures and decorating interiors, he often took several stock guitars and carved them to add the essences of art and give birth to beautiful priceless instruments.
a quite striking sample of his work, this stock Paul Reed Smith (which street price usually starts from US$1500) shown above did not even lose its maple top although it was carved so deep to reveal the legendary dragon and wizard fight.
no wonder, he have been carving wood for over than 40 years!!!
as written in his signature instruments, let me quote his humble claim:
"I can carve anything.. out of anything"
so, perhaps this is the best '74 SG ever, if i may presume.

beside carving pre-made guitars, sometimes he also builds his own works from stratch, which showed his other "wild" side :)
